In The Incredibles, Edna Mode wisely stated: "I never look back, darling. It distracts from the now." I may only be 15 years old, but I agree with her 100%. Looking back on the past often comes with the realization that "Now" is here and that no progress is happening. The past is too much of a distraction. Reflecting on the past, however, is a completely different story. If I reflect on my past, then I can prepare for a better future, while enjoying a new and improved Now. So, that's what I am doing with my English class.
My Work
If I had to use one word to describe my work this quarter as a whole, it would be adapting. I've had to adapt a lot of my style to this class as opposed to my English I course. Everything from learning how to navigate this Weebly site to run a blog, to attempting (that's the key word here) to tackle SCOUT Sheets, Membean practice, and online discussions, most of my experience this quarter has been formative.
After awhile, things started to fall into place and I am in the process of locking them in. I've grown a lot, and honestly, this week was the first week I finally felt like I am well-adjusted to this class. As a result, I expect this next quarter to go swimmingly. (Hey, no matter how rough the currents get, "just keep swimming"... Am I right?)
My Greatest Success
Although some unexpected drama somewhat halted the progress of this blog's personal section, I feel like this site is my biggest success this quarter. I really enjoy blogging and take pride in the work displayed here on this beautiful theme. (I recently got a new camera, so expect lots of pictures soon!)
The blogging experience has made it a lot easier for me to form words and analyze texts in a more casual style while still getting to the point in a professional matter. I am very excited to continue working on Lanterns On this year.
My Greatest Weakness
My constant struggle since I was a little kindergartener os that when I get to do something I really enjoy or something fresh, I excel at it and get the work done on time. Unfortunately, there are some assignments that don't click with me. I have a hard time enjoying the work, or at the very least, trying my best.
Such was the case with SCOUT Sheets. Especially with Frankenstein, I struggled with organizing my thoughts into exemplary annotations. I knew what I wanted to say, but finding textual evidence and citing it instead of simply sticking it in my brain was "the literal worst".
Honestly, I am not proud of my work on SCOUT Sheets, thus my most important goal for this class is to not only get them done in a quality and timely manner, but try to make it enjoyable.
My Goal
Ah, yes. This brings us to the goal. (Segway go zoom!)
I vow to do my SCOUT Sheets:
~ on time
~ throughly
~ with more quotes
~ more whole heartedly
I plan to carry this goal out by asking for help when needed, creating a schedule for when I fill out certain letters, making notes in my book, and if needed, setting up a temporary reward system for doing my SCOUT Sheet. A girl gotta do what she gotta do.
WHEN I accomplish this goal, it will definitely boost up my grade. More importantly, however, I will gain a better sense of understanding of the text and its ideas.
Conclusion
Wow. What a memorable quarter, in both positive and negative ways. I'm proud to say that I am getting over all the drama and stress that plagued me for the past month. You're right, Edna. It's time to move on.
Another goal of mine is to put more on this blog. The few people who view this deserve better. All of you reading this, thank you for sticking with me on the journey that is high school.
Until next time, cheers! Here's to three more beautiful quarters. I can't wait for the Shakespeare unit!
Living for the now,
Julianna
